Family:Whitney, Henry Mason (1806-1878)

Henry Mason⁸ Whitney (David⁷, Silas⁶, David⁵, Benjamin⁴, Thomas³, Thomas², John¹), son of David⁷ and Sarah (Wilson) Whitney, was born 19 Jan 1807, Clarendon, VT, and died 12 Nov 1878, Hampden, OH, aged 71 years. He was buried in Hambden Township Cemetery, Hambden, OH.^[1]

He married, 4 Jul 1837, Rochester, NY, Maria A. Wood, daughter of John Wood. She was born 31 Dec 1812, and died after 1900.

He was born at Clarendon, Rutland County, VT. In his early life he learned the shoemaker's trade, which he followed for about thirty years, when he took up farming and left his trade, it being too confining; moved to Schroon, Essex County, NY, where he lived a number of years; thence, he came to Rochester, NY, where he married, and for a time lived at Erie, PA, also Painesville, OH, and Chardon, OH, and finally purchased a farm in Hampden, Geauga County, OH, where he lived for many years and died at the age of 71 years, 12 Nov 1878. He was a man of marked integrity, temperate and modest in his habits, and liberal to a fault in the alleviation of the sufferings of mankind. He owned his own home at his death and left surviving a widow and five children. He resided Hampden, OH.
