Daniel Bigelow7 Whitney (John6, Ephraim5, Jonas4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of John6 and Hannah (Bigelow) Whitney, was born 31 Mar 1802, Newfane, VT,[1] and died 22 Jan 1876, Fort Covington, NY, aged 74 years.

He married, Putney, VT, Lucretia Fletcher. She was born Aug 3, 1802, and died 26 Feb 1867, Fort Covington, NY, aged 65 years.

He was born in Newfane, VT, and settled in Fort Covington, NY, and established himself as a cabinet maker. He increased his business until he became an extensive manufacturer of cabinet work and chairs. He had quite a trade in Canada, even extending across the St. Lawrence river, Fort Covington being located on the line with Canada. He always remained in the same house which he built. All the family resided in the house until his death. The place is now owned by his son John F. He was a member of the Baptist church, living a consistent Christian life, a strong opponent to the use of tobacco in any form, and of temperate habits. He was a staunch Whig and later a Republican in politics. He never sought or held a public office, but adhered industriously to his business of furniture manufacturing. Rev. Nathaniel Culver, Baptist preacher, remarked to him, "you are always in a hurry in this life. I do not know how it will be in the next." He died in the faith of inheriting eternal salvation. He resided Fort Covington, NY.
