Family:Whitney, Jonas (1727-1791)

Jonas⁵ Whitney (Jonas⁴, Moses³, Richard², John¹), son of Jonas⁴ and Dorcas (Wood) Whitney, was born 2 Jul 1727, Stow, MA,^[1] and died 23 Dec 1781 or 1791, Harvard, MA, in 65th year.^[2]

Jonas married, 13 Sep 1750, Harvard, MA, Zebudah Davis, daughter of John and Rebecka (Burt) Davis Jr. She was born 11 Apr 1728, Harvard, MA, and died 21 Nov 1812, Harvard, MA, aged 85 years, widow, of old age.

He was also known as Jonas Whitney Jr. He was a Revolutionary soldier.

Pierce says the following:^[3]

He was elected one of the selectmen in 1751. In seating the meeting house in 1775 he was given the third seat. His will was probated Dec. 6, 1791. Her will was probated Nov. 3, 1806.

iii.	Ephraim Whitney, b. 2 Apr 1754, Harvard, MA; d. 25 Mar 1824, Royalston, MA, aged 70 years; m. before 1792, Sarah Holman, dau. of Thomas and Deborah (Huntington) Holman, b. 8 Jul 1754, Sutton, MA, d. 5 Mar 1828, Royalston, MA, aged 72 years.
iv.	Jonas Whitney, b. 3 Mar 1756, Harvard, MA; m. Relief Whitney.
v.	Lydia Whitney, b. 17 Oct 1757, Harvard, MA; d. 1 May 1759, Harvard, MA, aged 18 months 13 days.
vi.	Salmon Whitney, b. 16 Feb 1760, Harvard, MA; m. Hepzibah Raymond.
vii.	Joel Whitney, b. 15 Oct 1762, Harvard, MA; m. Lydia Willard.
viii.	Israel Whitney, b. 16 Jan 1767, Harvard, MA; m. Susanna Gary.
ix.	----- Whitney, b. before 25 Jan 1771, Harvard, MA; d. 25 Jan 1771, Harvard, MA.
x.	Lucy Whitney, b. say 1769; guess by RLW. She is shown in Pierce on p. 81, without dates, and not in the Harvard VR's.
xi.	Peter Whitney, b. 17 Aug 1772, Harvard, MA; d. 10 Oct 1826, Gray, ME, aged 54 years (g.s.); "of Southborough" m. (int. 15 Sep 1797, Southborough, MA) 3 Oct 1797, Leominster, MA, Joanna Newhall "of Leominster". He was also known as Dr. Peter Whitney. According to Pierce, Peter "went to Maine", p. 81.
