In his early life he learned the shoemaker's trade, which he followed for about thirty years, when he took up farming and left his trade, it being too confining; moved to Schroon, Essex County, New York, where he lived a number of years; thence, he came to Rochester, New York, where he married, and for a time lived at Erie, Pennsylvania, also Painesville, Ohio, and Chardon, Ohio, and finally purchased a farm in Hampden, Geauga County, Ohio, Where he lived for many years and died at the age of 71 years, 12 Nov 1878. He was a man of marked integrity, temperate and modest in his habits, and liberal to a fault in the alleviation of the sufferings of mankind. He owned his own home at his death and left surviving a widow and five children. He died 12 Nov 1878; resided Hampden, Ohio. |

Henry Mason8 Whitney (David7, Silas6, David5, Benjamin4, Thomas3, Thomas2, John1), son of David7 and Sarah (Wilson) Whitney; born Clarendon, Vermont, 19 Jan 1807; married 4 Jul 1837, Maria A. Wood, born Dec. 31,1812. He was born at Clarendon, Rutland County, Vermont.
