James Porter9 Whitney (Peter Isaac8, Zerah7, James6, Samuel5, Samuel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Peter Isaac8 and Betsey (Porter) Whitney, was born 12 Jan 1838, Clarence, NY.
He married, 9 Oct 1862, Wayland, MI, Anna Grumman, daughter of Samuel and Pauline (Button) Grumman, of Hopkins, MI. She was born 16 Jun 1842, Solon, OH.
He resided Sand Lake, MI.
Phoenix says the following:
- "James Porter Whitney, b. at Clarence, N. Y., 12 Jan. 1838; a sawyer; married at Wayland, Mich., 9 Oct. 1862, by Rev. James Selkrig, an Episcopal missionary to the Indians, to Anna Grumman, dau. of Samuel and Pauline (Button) Grumman, of Hopkins, Mich. She was born at Solon, Ohio, 16 June 1842. They were living at Sand Lake, Mich., in 1875. "
