Family:Whitney, David (1827-1912)

David⁸ Whitney (Jonathan Wood⁷, Abraham⁶, Abraham⁵, Abraham⁴, Moses³, Richard², John¹), son of Jonathan Wood⁷ and Abigail (Brooks) Whitney, was born 5 Apr 1827, Lyman, NH (but recorded in Stow, MA),^[1] and died 23 Sep 1912, at the Soldiers Home in (Burkett) Grand Island, NE. He was buried in the Soldiers And Sailors Cemetery, Grand Island, NE.^[2]

He married firstly, 1849-1850, Rosina J. Rice. She was born about 1826, NY, and died after 1850, Appleton, WI.

He married secondly, 31 Jul 1851, Neenah, WI, Eliza C. Marston. She was born 19 Sep 1833, Deerfield, NH, and died after 1910.

He was a soldier in Co. F, 15 U.S. Infantry, in the Mexican War. For details, see his pension application cited below.

Notes

Even though his birth is recorded in Stow, MA, vital records, he consistently gave his birthplace as New Hampshire in all the censuses. In his pension file, he testified that he had been born in "Lymon," NH. Likewise, his brother Jonathan's birth is recorded in Stow, MA, vital records, but the latter's marriage record says that he was born in Lyman, NH.
