Elijah5 Whitney (Elijah4, Richard3, John2, Henry1), son of Elijah4 and Rebecca (Seymour) Whitney, was born 13 Oct 1736, Norwalk, CT,[1] and died after 1770.
He married, date and place unknown, Elizabeth Perry, daughter of Elisha and Anna (Saunders) Perry. She was born in Ridgefield, CT, and died after 1770.
Phoenix says the following:
- Elijah Whitney, b. at Norwalk, Conn., 13 Oct 1736; was of Norwalk, 30 Nov. 1752, when he chose John Seymour as his guardian. He married Elizabeth Perry, dau. of Elisha and Anna Perry, of Ridgefield, Conn. They settled in Danbury, Conn., and there sold, 23 Ap. 1770, for £5, to David Perry, ten acres of land in Ridgefield, "it being the whole of our right and interest in the thirds of our Honrd mother, ye Widow Hoyt, of Ridgefield."
Children of
i. Hannah6 Whitney, b. say 1760, possibly the one who m.(1) ----- Bass, and m.(2) Elijah Whitney. He was of Danbury, a farmer, whose origin is unknown. After the close of the Revolution, they moved to Philipstown, N. Y., thence to Coeymans, N. Y., and from there, about 1793 or 1794, to Leeds, near Gananoqui, Upper Canada, where they died; she, about 1810; he, about 1815.
Notes
Due to similarities in names (Elijah, Seth), dates, and location (Danbury, New York, Canada), it may be that this man was the same as Family:Whitney, Elijah (s1740-a1760). However, the 1770 land sale listed above needs to be checked to see if Elijah's wife at that time was listed as Elizabeth or Hannah. Also, who is "mother/widow Hoyt"?
Census
