Daniel Bigelow7 Whitney (John6, Ephraim5, Jonas4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), born Newfame, Vermont, Mar., 1802; married at Putney, Vermont, Lucretia Fletcher; born Aug 3, 1802; died 26 Feb 1867.

He was born in Newfane, Vermont., and settled in Fort Covington, New York, and established himself as a cabinet maker. He increased his business until he became an extensive manufacturer of cabinet work and chairs. He had quite a trade in Canada, even extending across the St. Lawrence river, Fort Covington being located on the line with Canada. He always remained in the same house which be built. All the family resided in the house until his death. The place is now owned by his son John F. He was a member of the Baptist church, living a consistent Christian life, a strong opponent to the use of tobacco in any form, and of temperate habits. He was a stanch Whig and later a Republican in politics. He never sought or held a public office, but adhered industriously to his business of furniture manufacturing. Rev. Nathaniel Culver, Baptist preacher, remarked to him, "you are always in a hurry in this life. I do not know how it will be in the next" He died in the faith of inheriting eternal salvation. He died 22 Jan 1876; resided Fort Covington, New York.

iii. Hannah Valeria Whitney, born 27 Aug 1836; married James Shearer; resided Cornwall, Ontario.
iv. Harriet Sophronia Whitney, born 23 Aug 1838; received a certificate of academic scholarship 1 Dec 1868 and died 4 May 1869
v. Achsan Ann Whitney, born 1842; died Mar 2, 1860.
vi. Charlotte Elizabeth Whitney, born 1847; died 1848.
