Timothy Whitney was born in Petersham, Massachusetts, but moved to Lanesborough early in life. He had all his children by his first wife, Lois Baker. He was a medium sized man, rather stocky in his old age, bald-headed, blue-eyed, very amiable, and fond of children, jolly, popular, and respected. He was the chief merchant in Lanesborough and postmaster for many years; also Register of Deeds for Berkshire County. He was a fine penman, accurate, and methodical. He was a leading lawyer there. - Ch.: Henry, born Jan. 21, 1816; died unknown; Douglas S., born 21 Jan 1817; died Sept. 19, 1885; John W., born 9 Jan 1819; resided Waterville, New York; Sophia, born 2 Apr 1820; died 21 Mar 1826; Elizabeth A., born 1 May 1822; married at Albany, New York, in June, 1864, Joseph E. A. Smith, born Feb. 4, 1822. He is the well known historian; resided Pittsfield; Frances, born 9 Sep 1825; died 1825; Fred, born 1 Nov 1826; died Jan., 1890. Agnes, child of Douglas, resided Brooklyn, New York; Harry T., child of Fred, resided New York City.
iv. Eliza Whitney, born -----; married 1823, Socrates Squier; she died 1826. - Ch.: George L., only child, born 1824. He resides in Buffalo, New York; is president of the George L. Squier Mfg. County, manufacturers of sugar, rice, and coffee machinery, agricultural implements, and mill engines.
v. Adeline Whitney, born -----; m.; a dau. is Mrs. J. W. Peck; resided New Britain, Connecticut.
