Hugh Henry8 Whitney (Jacob7, Richard6, Richard5, Israel4, Ebenezer3, Richard2, John1), son of Jacob7 and Polly (Watts) Whitney, was born 26 Oct 1825, Weston, VT, and died 8 Mar 1890, Tombstone, AZ.
Hugh married firstly, 3 Feb 1846, Lavina Moore. She was born circa 1824, PA, and died 6 Apr 1858, Waterford, PA. She is buried in Waterford Cemetery.
Hugh married secondly, before 1860, Elizabeth Himrod. She was born circa 1832, PA, and died 9 Jan 1873. She is buried in Waterford Cemetery.[1][2]
Hugh Henry Whitney's father, Jacob, died when Hugh was eight.[3] Hugh then lived and worked on his grandfather's farm. He arrived in Waterford, PA at about the age of twenty. H. H. Whitney became a grocer, merchant and entrepreneur. About 1876 he went west to enter the cattle raising business, first in Medicine Lodge, Kansas and later in Bisbee, Arizona, near Tombstone as one of the stockholders of the Erie Cattle Company.[4] His son Wallace and other members of his family followed him to Arizona. Upon his death in 1890, H. H. Whitney was brought back and laid to rest in the Waterford Cemetery.
