Elkanah8 Whitney (William Markham7, Joshua6, Joshua5, Matthias4, Cornelius3, Joshua2, John1), son of William Markham7 and Rosina (Craw) Whitney, was born 24 Dec 1832, Rush, NY.

He married, 8 Jan 1861, Cottage Grove, OR, Mary Ann White. She was born Oct 1839.

He is a farmer and stockraiser; resided Lane (probably Lane County) and Gale (location unidentified), OR.

Children of Elkanah8 and Mary Ann (White) Whitney:

i. Albert Vine9 Whitney, b. 7 Oct 1861. He is engaged in stockraising, is unmarried; resided Cottage Grove, OR.
ii. Phebe Jane Whitney, b. 20 Jun 1863; d. 20 Sep 1867.
iii. William Perry Whitney, b. 18 Jan 1865.
iv. Daniel Merion Whitney, b. 10 Jan 1868.
v. Caroline Whitney, b. 13 Jul 1872.
vi. Jerome Whitney, b. 25 Oct 1874.
vii. Johnston Whitney, b. 20 Sep 1877.
viii. Martha Ann Whitney, b. 20 Dec 1880.

Notes

There was a "Gale Post Office", now "Merrill Post Office", in Klamath County, OR. Also "Lane" was a railroad stop name for what is now "Siltcoos", Lane County, OR.
