Truman Orson7 Whitney (Erastus6, Samuel5, John4, Henry3, John2, Henry1), son of Erastus6 and Hannah (Jerome) Whitney, was born 11 Mar 1813, Henderson, NY, and died 3 Mar 1876, Henderson, NY, where he was buried.
He married, 12 Mar 1840, near Woodville, Ellisburgh, NY, Martha Wood, daughter of James and Barbara (Ireland) Wood. She was born 6 Aug 1815, Ellisburgh, NY, and died after Mar 1876.
Phoenix says the following:
- ". . . a farmer . . . . They settled in Henderson, and were still living in the south part of the town in 1874, on a fine farm of nearly four hundred acres. He was supervisor of Henderson in 1863, and deputy-assessor of internal revenue, for the 20th District in the State of New York, from 1863 till 1869."
Children of Truman Orson7 and Martha (Wood) Whitney, all born Henderson, NY:
i. Elvira Janet8 Whitney, b. 6 Aug 1841; m. 16 Jun 1869, Henderson, NY, Albert Ransom Benedict, son of Ransom and Clarinda Caroline (Willis) Benedict; b. 28 Jan 1844, Sangerfield, NY; farmer. They were living near Waterville post-office, in Sangerfield, in 1874. ii. Myron Jerome Whitney, b. 27 Jan 1843; m. 28 Jan 1872, Henderson, NY, Florence White, daughter of Edward and Sarah (Warner) White, 28 Dec 1852, Henderson, NY; a farmer. They were living in Henderson, with his parents, in 1874. He enlisted in Apr 1861, at Belleville, in Ellisburgh, NY, in Company K, 24th Regiment, New York State Volunteer Infantry; took part in both battles of Fredericksburgh, and the battles of South Mountain and Antietam; and was discharged at Elmira, NY, in Jun 1863. iii. Byron Murray Whitney, b. 23 Oct 1849; d. 27 Aug 1867, Henderson, NY, and was buried there in Evergreen Cemetery. iv. Truman Jay Whitney, b. 18 Jan 1856; and lived there, with his parents, in 1874.
