He enlisted at Portland, ME 30 September 1861. Lived at Eades Falls, Naples, Maine, where he was a farmer,  before enlisting.  He was discharged 8 May 1863 at Portland. After discharge he lived in Standish until 1873, and in Boston, MA until 1893, in Dover, NH until 1900, and in Revere, MA until 1905, then in Boston. He was a house painter. He was 5 ft, 9 inches tall, 138 lbs., blue eyes, gray hair at time of application. Dark complexion.

Abel7 Whitney (Levi6, Abel5, Naham4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Levi6 and Happy (Higgins) Whitney, was born 22 Mar 1811, Standish, ME,[1] and died 1884, Naples, ME.

Marriage intentions were filed 28 Mar 1835 and published 12 Apr 1835, Standish, ME, for him and Sarah Cole.[2] He married firstly, 19 Apr 1835, Standish, ME, Sarah Cole.[3] She was born 1811, and died 1853.

Marriage intentions were filed 11 Dec 1863, Standish, ME, for him and his second wife, Mrs. Mary Ann Seavitt of Gorham. She was born about 1826.

He resided in Standish, ME in the census of 1850, and in Naples, ME in the censuses of 1860 through 1880. He was a cooper.
