Family:Whitney, Otis Crocker (1814-1892)

Otis Crocker Whitney, (Ephraim), son of Ephraim and Polly (Crocker) Whitney, was born 27 Apr 1814, Machias, Washington Co., ME, and died 19 Sep 1892, MT.

He married, firstly, Mary -----.

He married, secondly, Ellen E. Hill. She was born circa 1837, AR, and died after 1880.

About 1839 Otis migrated to settle in the new town of Northfield, ME. where he became Justice of the Peace, surveyor, town clerk and numerous other positions, probably because there were so few people there to fill them.

Otis Whitney left Minnesota in 1863 for Montana. He took a new wife with him, Ellen (Hill) and homesteaded, raised horses and cattle and ranched near Virginia City, Montana. He was a member of the House of Representatives, Seventh Session, 1871-1872, Territorial Legislative Assembly. Otis died Sept. 19, 1892 at the ranch in Montana.
