Family:Whitney, Charles Mayo (1833-1900)

Charles Mayo Whitney (Jacob, (prob.) Jabez⁶, Jacob⁵, Jonas⁴, Eleazar³, Thomas², John¹), son of Jacob and Sally (Pratt) Whitney, was born 23 Oct 1833, Wayland, MA,^[1] and died 17 Mar 1900, Vancouver, BC.^[2]

He married, 1859 or 1860 Laura Acenath Maxfield.^[3][4] She was born 16 Sep 1836, Chester, VT,^[5] and died 22 Dec 1893,^[6] New Westminster, BC.

They lived in Troy for several years, while Charles was working as a lawyer.

By 1880 he is living in Saint Louis, where he is listed variously as a lawyer and an editor.^[7]

By 1890, we find Charles and his son, Charles Francis, both living near Vancouver, BC. Charles M. started a newspaper there, and apparently started going by the name "Mayo" (his middle name).^[8]
