Barzilla J.8 Whitney (William Knowlton7, John Smith6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Eleazer3, Thomas2, John1), son of William Knowlton7 and Deborah (Woodward) Whitney, was born 21 Apr 1822, Athol, MA,[1] and died 6 Jan 1858, Fitchburg, MA, or Athol, MA, aged 36 years, of consumption.[2]
He married, 15 Jun 1845, Orange, MA, Eliza M. Frye,[3] daughter of James and Sophia (Wilder) Frye. She was born about Apr 1825, Winchendon, MA, and died 24 Sep 1855, Athol, MA, aged 30 years 5 months, of disease of heart.[4]
He, of Fitchburg, MA, married secondly, 19 Aug 1857, Keene, NH, Harriet A. Wright,[5] of Swanzey, NH, daughter of William and Rachel (Underwood) Wright. She was born 15 May 1830, Swanzey, NH, and died unknown.

Dennis,[9] daughter of George and Louisa (Sanderson) Dennis, b. 23 Dec 1853, Athol, MA;[10] resided Athol, MA. - NOTE: In 1880, he is reported as single, when it should be either married or widowed. No death record is found for Isabel B. (Haven) Whitney. Nevertheless, at his marriage to Charlott, it is called his second. Both marriage records correctly identify his parents.
