Ens. Abner5 Whitney (Jonas4, Eleazar3, Thomas2, John1), son of Jonas4 and Sarah (Perry) Whitney, was born 17 Nov 1744, Roxbury, MA,[1] and died 6 Jan 1826, Springfield, VT, aged 84 years.[2]

He "of Roxbury" married firstly, 21 Mar 1768, Newton, MA, Esther Jackson[3] "of Newton", daughter of Abraham and Mary (Hyde) Jackson. She was born 3 Dec 1748, Newton, MA.

He married secondly, about 1788, Elizabeth -----. She was born circa 1751, and died 14 Dec 1825, Springfield, Vermont, aged 74 years.

"He was born either in Newton or Roxbury, probably the former place [actually Roxbury - in VR's]. When the Revolutionary War broke out, he enlisted in the company commanded by Capt. Wiswell, raised in Newton, and was at once promoted to sergeant. Later in the war he was serving as an ensign (or second lieutenant). He was granted a pension Apr. 13, 1818, and at that time he was residing in Windsor Co., VT, where he died 6 Jan 1826, ae. 81."[4]
