Family:Whitney, Sarah (1705-1774)

Sarah⁴ Whitney (Isaiah³, Thomas², John¹), daughter of Isaiah³ and Sarah (Woodward)(Eddy) Whitney, was born 9 Apr 1705, Lexington, MA, was baptized 22 Apr 1705, Lexington, MA,^[1] and died 18 Dec 1774, Lexington, MA, aged 70 years.^[2]

Sarah married, 2 Aug 1720, Lexington, MA, Andrew Parker,^[3] son of Josiah and Deliverance (Dodge) Parker. He was born 14 Feb 1693, Reading, MA, and died 8 Apr 1776, Lexington, MA.

On 4 Nov 1724, she made peace with the church, and in 1728 was admitted to the church.

Pierce says the following:^[4]

SARAH [WHITNEY], bap. July 22, 1708; m. Aug. 2, 1720, Andrew PARKER, b. Feb. 4, 1693 [NOTE], d. Apr. 8, 1776; res. Lex. She d. Dec. 18, 1774. Ch.: Sarah, b. Feb. 9, 1721; m. Jabez KENDALL; Jonas, b. Feb. 6, 1722; m. Lucy -----. He was a member of the company of Lexington Minute Men, commanded by Capt. John PARKER, that participated in the battle of Lexington and "fired the shot heard round the world". "History, Roman history," says EVERETT, "does not furnish an example of bravery that outshines that of Jonas PARKER. A truer heart did not bleed as Thermopylae. He was next-door neighbor of Rev. Mr. CLARK's, and had evidently imbibed a double portion of his lofty spirit. PARKER was often heard to say that be the consequences what they might, and let others do as they pleased, he would never run from the enemy. He was as good as his word - better. Having loaded his musket, he placed his hat, containing his ammunition, on the ground between his feet in readiness for the second charge. At the second fire from the enemy he was wounded and sunk upon his knees, and in this condition discharged his gun. While loading it again upon his knees, and striving in the agonies of death to redeem his pledge, he was transfixed by a bayonet, and thus died on the spot where he first stood and fell."
