Zerah7 Whitney (James6, Samuel5, Samuel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), born Newtown, Connecticut, 10 Jun 1784; married 19 Feb 1808, Jane Demond; born 22 Dec 1788; died 25 Jun 1843.
He was born in Newtown, Connecticut, and was a tanner and currier by trade. Moving to New York state, he later located in Michigan at Cascade. The village where he resided was called Whitneyville, in his honor. He was in the war of 1812 and received a pension. Was justice of the peace for many years. Seventeen of his sons and grandsons served in the civil war and not one was wounded. He died Jan. 15, 1873; resided Bradley, Michigan.

i. Martin V. B.8 Whitney, born 24 Nov 1832; married Harriett White. ii. Ruth Ann Whitney, born 28 Oct 1808; married 5 Apr 1828, Jonathan Mizener. He was born 7 Apr 1803; died 13 Apr 1875. She died 3 Sep 1869. - Ch.: John; resided Grand Rapids, Michigan.
iii. Peter I. Whitney, born 5 Oct 1810; married Betsey Porter. iv. Oscar F. Whitney, born 6 Aug 1812; married Electa A. Bryant. v. Ezra Whitney, born 29 Jul 1815; married Hannah DE Puy. vi. Abraham J. Whitney, born 13 Jan 1820; married Julia A. Morse, Virginia A. Chatterdon and Frances Bennett. vii. Chester C. Whitney, born 18 Sep 1822; married Amanda DE Puy.
