Family:Whitney, John (1803-1879)
Rev. John7 Whitney (Salmon6, Jonas5, Jonas4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of Salmon6 and Hepsabeth (Raymond) Whitney; born Harvard, Massachusetts, 1 Sep 1803; married 15 Oct 1835, Mary A. Jewett, dau. of Rev. David, of Rockport, born 28 Nov 1808.
He was the fifth minister of the first church in Boxford, Massachusetts, and was ordained 15 Oct 1834, and dismissed in 1837. He graduated at Amherst in 1831 and was at Andover Theological Seminary in 1834, and at once settled in Boxford. He went to Waltham at the conclusion of his first pastorate and was settled there for twenty years. Then for ten years he was located at Canaan, New York. Later he moved to Newton Centre, Massachusetts, where he died. He was a scholarly man and kept up his studies to the end of his life. He died 31 May 1879; resided Boxford and Waltham, Massachusetts. Canaan, New York, and Newton Centre, Massachusetts.

i. David Jewett8 Whitney, born 30 Sep 1836, in Marblehead, Massachusetts; married 5 Dec 1861, Martha Jane Hinkel; born 15 Aug 1836. He was for five years in Boston in the dry goods business, and went to New York city in 1857; he resided at 809 East 21st street; was educated at Phillips Academy; is now a commission merchant; s. p. ii. John Raymond Whitney, born 18 Jan 1838; died 27 Sep 1838. iii. Mary Reed Whitney, born 1 Mar 1839; married 20 Nov 1862, F. W. Felton, a lawyer; resided 181 W. Brookline St., Boston. iv. Elizabeth Jewett Whitney, born 23 Feb 1841; unmarried; resided at home. v. Martha Raps Whitney, born 24 Jul 1843; died 2 Sep 1843. vi. Martha Raymond Whitney, born 6 Jun 1844; died 24 Sep 1844. vii. Hannah Ann Jewett Whitney, born 27 Nov 1846; resided at home. viii. Maria Delano Whitney, born 30 Nov 1851.
