He married, Dorcas Austin. She was born about 1797, NY, and died after 1860.
He resided Horseheads, NY.
Phoenix says the following:
- "Eli Whitney, b. in Newtown, Conn., 25 Feb. 1795; a shoemaker, butcher, and painter; married Dorcas Austin, dau. of Samuel Austin. His last residence was at Horseheads, N. Y., and he died there."

Theresa Pamelia Whitney, b. ca. 1828, NY; unmarried in 1860. vi. Samuel Austin Whitney, b. ca. 1830, Newfield, NY; m. 16 Apr 1856, Horseheads, NY, Lucinda Devoe; resided Elmira, NY. vii. Philo Lorenzo Whitney, b. 30 May 1833, Newfield, NY; m. Ann Elizabeth Zeak. viii. Henry Eli Whitney, b. ca. 1836, NY; served for three years in the war of 1861; resided Elmira, NY. ix. Alozia Whitney, b. ca. 1848, NY; m. Elmira, NY, Albert McKinney; resided Southport, NY. He enlisted, 15 Aug. 1862, in Co. D, 141st Reg., N. Y. S. Vol.; and was discharged 4 Feb. 1863.
