Albert Russell7 Whitney (Rufus6, Tarball5, Solomon4, David3, Joshua2, John1), son of Rufus6 and Laura Maria (Picket) Whitney, was born 19 Sep 1840, and died 5 Nov 1864.

He married, 1860, Almond, Allegeny, NY, Sarah A Treat. She was born circa 1845, NY, and died after 1880. She married, second, Alexander McNett.

They resided Almond, Allegeny, NY.

He enlisted for 3 years in the New York Volunteers for the Civil War of 1861. He was mustered into service on 3 Sep 1862 in Portage as a Private in H Company of the 130th New York Volunteers Infantry Regiment. On 28 Jul 1863 the regiment was converted into a mounted regiment and on 11 Aug 1863 redesignated as the 19th New York Cavalry Regiment. It was again redesignated as the 1st New York Dragoons Regiment on 10 Sep 1863. Albert fought with the 1st Dragoons until his capture during the Battle of the Wilderness at skirmishes at Todd's Tavern, VA, on 7 May 1864. He was sent to Andersonville prison in Georgia. He survived the harsh conditions of the prison but died from disease contracted there while on his way home, 5 Nov 1864. Engagements that he participated in are:
