Charles Carroll8 Whitney (Joel7, Joel6, Jonathan5, Jonathan4, Jonathan3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Joel7 and Esther (Belding) Whitney, was born 2 Oct 1832, Seneca, NY, and died after 1892.

He married firstly, 25 Nov 1857, Marion Clarke. She was born 17 Mar 1839, Canada, and died 11 Jan 1873, probably Indianapolis, IN.

He married secondly, 23 Sep 1878, Julia L. Brown. She was born 26 Nov 1848.

He was born in Seneca Castle, NY. Graduated at Williams College in 1853. Subsequently engaged in the telegraph business, and was manager of the Western Union office at Indianapolis during the war. Was assistant secretary of the Franklin Life Insurance Company of Indianapolis, IN, in 1874. In 1876 he became private secretary of William H. Beers, vice-president and actuary of the New York Life Insurance Company, and retained that position with him when he became president. He was elected secretary of the company in 1892, the office having been created for that purpose. He is also a director in the Manhattan Safe Deposit and Storage Company; resided New York, NY, add. 346-348 Broadway.
