Alva L. Whitney (Samuel, Elijah), son of Samuel and Sibbel (Phillips) Whitney, was born 12 Apr 1809, and died after 1860.

He married, 13 Oct 1830, Marinda Hartwell, daughter of John and Sebee (Osborn) Hartwell. She was born 16 Nov 1809, NY, and died 2 Aug 1884.

iv.	Delos Whitney, b. ca. 1842, NY; d. 24 Apr 1916, Mason City, IA; m. 30 Jun 1883, Mason City, IA, Eliza Ann Henry.
v.	Mary Jane Whitney, b. 6 Jul 1844, NY; bur. 25 Feb 1922, Garden Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN; m. 31 Oct 1866, IA, John Van Patter.
