Samuel Thomas⁸ Whitney (Thomas Mott⁷, Samuel⁶, Samuel⁵, Abraham⁴, Joseph³, John², Henry¹), son of Thomas Mott⁷ and Mary Buchanan (King) Whitney, was born 22 Jun 1831, North East Harbor, NS, and died 19 Apr 1900, Swans Island, ME.

He married, 18 Sep 1853, Swans Island, ME, Hannah Maria Stinson, daughter of Rev. Benjamin Franklin and Hannah (Staples) Stinson, and grand daughter of Benjamin and Sarah (Smith) Stinson. She was born 21 Jan 1839, Swans Island, ME, and died 21 Apr 1924. She is buried in Chewelah Pioneer Cemetery, Chewelah, WA.^[1]

He was a carpenter, joiner and master-builder; settled at Swans Island, ME, 10 June 1852. They were living at Swan's Island in 1873.

After her husband died in Washington State in 1928 she returned to Maine and lived with her dau. Marjorie Adams in Sanford where she died.[2]
ii.	Mary Ella Whitney, b. 5 Nov 1856, Swans Island, ME; m.(1) Sep 1874, Swans Island, ME, Duncan McAndless; m.(2) 1900 Belfast, ME, Nathaniel G. Pettengill; bur. Chewelah Pioneer Cemetery, Chewelah, WA.[3]
iii.	Thomas Franklin Whitney, b. 10 Dec 1858, Swans Island, ME; and was living there, with his parents, in 1873; poss. the Thomas F. Whitney who m. before 1883, Martha L. Withrow.
iv.	Arthur Collin Whitney, b. 18 Oct 1862, Swans Island, ME; m. 1883, Mary H. Smith.
v.	Hannah Louisa Whitney, b. 16 Sep 1866, Swans Island, ME; d. after 1880.
vi.	Netty Maria Whitney, b. 11 Oct 1869, Swans Island, ME; d. 27 Apr 1959, Spokane, WA; unmarried; bur. Chewelah Pioneer Cemetery, Chewelah, WA.[4]
