He married Elizabeth -----. She was born about 1801, Rodenham, Herefordshire, England.
In 1841 the family was enumerated on Castle Street in St. Mary Parish, St. Mary, Shropshire, England where George was working as a chemist. In 1851, the family resided on High Street in Shrewsbury St. Chad, Shropshire, England where George was listed as a chemist. Also listed with the family were two other chemists and a house servant.
Also living with the family in 1841 was Catherine Whitney, b. ca. 1771, and not born in Shropshire, of independent means. This was most likely Geroge's widowed mother.

Joseph Whitney, b. ca. 1827, probably Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. In 1841 he was listed as a chemist's apprentice. He was not listed with the family in 1851. iii. James Whitney, b. ca. 1829, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. He was listed as a bookseller in 1851. iv. Elizabeth Whitney, b. ca. 1831, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. v. Catherine Whitney, b. ca. 1833, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. vi. Emma Whitney, b. ca. 1835, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. vii. Eustace or Robert Whitney, b. ca. 1836, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. He was listed as Robert in 1841, but Eustace in 1851. viii. Mary Ann Whitney, b. ca. 1838, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England.
