Elbridge Whipple8 Whitney (William Knowlton7, John Smith6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Eleazer3, Thomas2, John1), son of William Knowlton7 and Deborah (Woodward) Whitney, was born 26 May 1819, Athol, MA,[1] and "E. Whipple Whitney" died 1 May 1882, Athol, MA, aged 61 years 11 months, of pulmonary phthisis, "poliece", born in Athol, son of William K. Whitney.[2]

He married 20 Oct 1841, Athol, MA, Sophia Ann Billings,[3] daughter of Erastus and Abigail (Allis) Billings. She was born about 23 Oct 1823, Lunenburg, VT, and died 14 Feb 1873, aged 49 years 3 months 21 days, of ovarian tumor.[4]
