Family:Whitney, Joshua (1754-1835)
Joshua5 Whitney (Eleazer4, Eleazar3, Thomas2, John1), son of Eleazer4 and Mary (Grow) Whitney, was born 26 Apr 1754 at Westborough, MA,[1] and died 2 Feb 1835, Henniker, NH, aged 81 years, of pneumonia.[2]
Marriage intentions were published 12 Nov 1777, Westborough, MA, for Joshua "of Hanneker" and Betty Wood.[3] She was born circa 1756, possibly Westborough, MA, and died after 1830.
Pierce says the following:[4]
- He was a soldier in the Revolutionary war, and was at one time, in the early part of the war, a member of the company commanded by Capt. KIMBALL, of Grafton, Mass. Moving to New Hampshire, he enlisted, Aug. 6, 1778, in. Capt. BOWMAN's company, under Gen. SULLIVAN, and was in the service in Rhode Island, and granted a pension, Mar. 4, 1831, for having been a soldier in the Mass. line of the Continental Army.
Cutter says the following:[5]
- Sergeant Joshua Whitney was born 26 Apr 1754 & died 2 Feb 1835. He lived in Henniker, NH. He served in the Revolution. He was granted a pension, 4 Mar 1831. He married 12 Nov 1777 to Betty Wood.

- Luther born 25 Jul 1780
- Levi born 25 May 1783 & died 16 Oct 1785
- Stephen born 15 Oct 1785 & died 24 May 1789

- 1800, Henniker, Hillsborough Co., NH: Joshua Whitney, 1 male 16-25, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 0-9, 1 female 26-44, and 1 female 0-9. This Joshua would have been 46 years old, but the oldest male is listed as 16-25.
- 1810: not found.
- 1820, Henniker, Hillsborough Co., NH: Joshua Whitney, 1 male over 45, 1 female over 45, and 1 female 26-44; 1 engaged in agriculture.
- 1830, Henniker, Merrimack Co., NH: Joshua Whitney, 1 male 70-79, 1 female 70-79, and 1 female 30-39.
