       1578, Feb. 21, FRANCIS WHITNEY, Esq., was licensed to convey land and tenements in Ulkington, co. Chester.

proved, P.C.C., in 1601.  Speaks of his brother, Brook Whitney.  Au-
thor of "Whitney's Emblems," published at Leyden, 1585, in which he mentions his father, Geffrey Whitney; his brother, Mr. Br. Whitney;
his kinsman, R. W., of Coole; his relative, R. E., medicum insignem.  Other emblems are inscribed. -- "Ad D. H. Wh. patruelis mei;" to his sister.
