Notes
Alfonzo Whitney first appears in the Barren Co. census records in 1840. It is known that his father was born in SC and his mother in VA from the 1880 census. In 1830, there were 3 Whitney families in Barren Co., and based upon the 1880 census records of their children, two of these three families had wives born in VA. Samuel Whitney could not have been Alfonzo's father as he was not married until 1824, and no children of the correct age are found in this family's census records. On the other hand, only Samuel's wife was born in VA.
