Family:Whitney, Amos (1762-1804)
Amos6 Whitney (Daniel5, James4, John3, Jonathan2, John1), son of Daniel5 and Miriam (Leland) Whitney,[1] was born 30 May 1762, Sherborn, MA,[2] and died in 1804, Boston, MA.
Marriage intentions were published 30 Sep 1802, Brookline, MA, for him and Catherine Hunt "of Wobourn".[3] He "of Boston" married, 31 Oct 1802, Woburn, MA, Catherine Hunt "of Woburn".[4] He married 31 Oct 1802, Woburn, MA, Catherine Hunt.[5] She may be the Katherine Hunt, daughter of Shrimpton and Margaret (-----) Hunt who was born 30 Aug 1758, Boston, MA. She was born 1774, and died 27 May 1836, Cambridge, MA, aged 62 years, of consumption, and was buried May 29, 1836, Cambridge, MA.[6] She married secondly, before 1811, Joseph6 Whitney, q.v.
He was a merchant in Boston. He resided Sherborn, MA, and Boston, MA.
Alleged children of Amos6 and Catherine (Hunt) Whitney, but actually probably none:
i. Daniel White7 Whitney, b. -----. [See Notes below.] ii. Amos Whitney, b. -----. [See Notes below.] iii. William Scott Whitney, b. -----. [See Notes below.] iv. Catherine Whitney. [See Notes below.]
Census
- 1790: not found.
- 1800: not found.
Notes
The first three children listed above apparently belong to his brother Daniel6 Whitney. This accords with the realization that he died just two years after his marriage, according to the dates given above. The fourth child listed above was actually his widow, who had remarried his cousin Joseph6 Whitney, as given above. Their inclusion here is because four persons of their names were listed as heirs of Amos Whitney in his Suffolk Co., MA, probate file.
