Capt. Asa6 Whitney (Joshua5, Joshua4, William3, Joshua2, John1), son of Joshua5 and Anna (Ashley) Whitney, was born 23 Feb 1784, Canaan, CT, and died 18 May 1860, Silver Creek, NY[1].

He married firstly, 11 Mar 1806, Canaan, CT, Betsey Childs, daughter of Capt. Abraham Child. She was born Jun 1782, Groton, CT, and died 16 Apr 1836, Silver Creek, NY, aged 54 years.[2]

He married secondly, between 1836 and 1850, Clarissa -----. She was born about 1795, VT, and died after 1860. She may have been the female 50-59 in his family in 1840, but if so, her age was overstated.

He was born in Connecticut and moved to Oswego County, NY, in 1807. He was the first man that began clearing up a farm in the town of Volney. Was captain in the state militia and served in the war of 1812. Participated in the battle of Oswego and at other places along the northern lakes. He resided in Volney twenty-six years. In 1830 he sold his farm and moved to the town of Penfield, in Monroe county, state of New York, where he remained four years, then sold his farm; in 1835 moved to Silver Creek, Chautauqua county, New York, bought a farm and kept a public house twenty years; then retired to private life. He resided Silver Creek, New York.

He received an award of $58 for his service in the New York state militia during the War of 1812. At the time, he was residing in Chautauqua Co., NY.[3]

ii. Adaline Whitney, b. 11 Oct 1809; m. 1840 and d.s.p.
iii. Charlotte Whitney, b. 17 Dec 1816; d. 1876; m. 1835, George G. Beatty; resided Toledo, OH, leaving one dau. Mrs. Bertha Boschert; resided Toledo.
iv. Edward B. Whitney, b. 7 Feb 1819; m. Eliza A. Homan.
