Benjamin Rush8 Whitney (David7, Jonathan6, David5, Jonathan4, Jonathan3, Benjamin2, John1), son of David7 and Elizabeth Smith (Granger) Whitney; born 27 Apr 1832, Shelburne, MA, and died after 1885.
He married 25 Nov 1858, Utica, MO Mary Anne Conrad, born 8 Mar 1838, Newry, PA, and died after 1885.
While he was an infant his parents removed to western New York, and in 1845 to Madison, IN. He received his education at Hanover College, Hanover, Jefferson County, IN, taking the degree of B.A., 18 Sep 1858. Taught school in Shelby County, KY, and Lafayette, IN, for the next two years and in Sept, 1852, joined a party of civil engineers on the Ohio and Mississippi Railway, and has practiced the profession of civil engineer ever since. Went to Missouri in May 1856, and was assistant engineer on the Hannibal & St. Joseph, R.R. for two years. Married 25 Nov 1858, and went to Kansas City, MO, Jul 1860, when work was commenced on the west end of the Missouri Pacific Ry., and has made his permanent home in Kansas City ever since. Was city engineer of Kansas City in 1885-86, but his practice has been mainly in railway construction, in which he has filled all the positions from chairman to chief engineer, having served in the states of Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Louisiana, Colorado and California and the territories of New Mexico and Arizona; resided Kansas City, MO, 628 Harrison street.

Mari Francis Whitney, born 22 Oct 1875; resided Cassel, Germany, 1894. viii. Mary Elinor Whitney, born 11 Jul 1881. ix. Beatrice Fanny Whitney, born 10 Aug 1885. x. Four Others, died in infancy.
