David7 Whitney (Amos6, Jonathan5, Samuel4, John3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Amos6 and Abigail (Springer) Whitney, was born 2 May 1802, Bath, ME. He died 15 Aug 1881, Sabula, Jackson Co., IA. He is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Sabula, IA.
Marriage intentions were published, 26 Feb 1826, Knox, ME, for him and his first wife Mercy Reed "both of Knox",[1] born 17 Oct 1800, Mount Desert Island, ME, dau. of James and Martha (Patty) (Milliken) Reed. She d. 11 Aug 1857, Lincoln, ME, buried West Broadway Cemetery, Lincoln, ME.
Marriage intentions were published 26 Jul 1859, Lincoln, ME, for him and Mary Lowell.[2]
He married, secondly, after 1857, Mary E. (Neal) Dolley, widow of Henry Dolley. She died 1890, and she and Henry Dolley are buried in the West Broadway Cemetery, Lincoln, ME.
He was a farmer.

She d. 5 Dec 1879, Lincoln, ME, and is buried in the West Broadway Cemetery, Lincoln, ME. iii. Isaac Reed Whitney, b. 12 Jul 1830, Waldo, ME; m. Matilda Ann Frazier; resided Bangor, ME. iv. Simeon Whitney, b. Aug 1832, prob. Waldo, ME; res. Indiantown, St. John, NB. In 1900, he res. in Greenbush, Penobscot Co., ME with two sons: David, b. Feb 1876, and James F.S., b. Aug 1879, both b. St. John, N.B., Canada. v. Hannah Whitney, b. ca. 1837, poss. Waldo, ME; m. 12 Apr 1853, Lincoln, ME, John Clay.[4] vi. Caroline C. Whitney, b. 25 Dec 1839, Canada; d. 11 Nov 1917, Sabula, IA; m.(1) 24 Nov 1860, Lincoln, ME, James Cathcart, "both of Lincoln".[5] He d. 29 Sep 1862, Washington, D.C. He was a Civil War casualty, and his widow received a pension from the U.S. government. Subsequent to the death of her husband, "Carrie" cohabited with Gustavus L. Mills, who also received a Civil War pension.[6] Gustavus is the son of George and Elizabeth E. Mills, and the brother of Evelyn Mills, who married Carrie's brother, David Cathcart Whitney. Both Carrie (Whitney) Cathcart and Gustavus L. Mills are buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula, IA. vii. David Cathcart Whitney, b. 23 Feb 1842, Lincoln, ME, m. 1866, Evaline L. Mills; resided Sabula, IA, d. 8 Dec 1934. viii. Margaret Whitney, b. ca. 1845, prob. Lincoln, ME; d. after 1850; not found in 1860 census of Maine.
