There were 4 families living in Washington Co., ME in 1790 that could have been Ephraim's parents:
- Family:Whitney, Nathan (1742-1834)
- Family:Whitney, Joel (1743-1791)
- Family:Whitney, Matthias (1744-c1820)
- Family:Whitney, Naphtali (1751-?)
Ken Whitney, in his post titled Ephraim Whitney m. Polly Crocker, surmises that Ephraim Whitney may have been a son of Naphtali and Mary (Stone) Whitney.
