Notes
George Huyler Whitney and his family should appear in the 1820 census of Wolcott, Orleans Co., VT, but doesn't. The name "Fyler Whitney" does occur then and there, and nowhere else in our records. Of course Huyler rhymes with Fyler. Furthermore, the shape of the family in the census (1 male 18-25, 1 male 0-9, and 1 female 26-44; 1 engaged in agriculture) perfectly matches George's. I propose that that census record pertains to George, and that there is no such person as Fyler Whitney.
