George Washington7 Whitney (John6, Amos5, Amos4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of John6 and Betsey (Fairbanks) Whitney, was born 19 Aug 1827, Newburgh, ME, and died 16 Sep 1914, Bangor, ME, buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, ME.

He married, about 1853, Mary J. -----. She was born about 1828, ME, and died after 1900.

He resided in Newburgh, ME in 1850; in Bangor, ME in 1860 through 1880, where he was the jail keeper; and Newburgh, ME, in 1900, where he was a farmer.

i. Mary Florence8 Whitney, b. ca. 1858, ME; d. after 1880.

Notes

There is some confusion about which George W. Whitney was the jailer at Bangor. Pierce claims it was Richard Whitney's son,[1] but the age in the censuses supports John's. Furthermore, John's son Warren was living with George in 1860.
