Joel7 Whitney (Ephraim6, Joel5, Abel4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Ephraim6 and Sarah (Noyes) Whitney, was born 16 Apr 1800, Chandler's River (Jonesboro), ME, and died 30 May 1864, MN.

He married firstly (intentions 21 Aug 1821, Jonesboro, ME), 25 Aug 1821, Addison, ME, Jane Elizabeth Corthell, daughter of Kinsman and Lucy (Hall) Corthell. She was born 20 Sep 1805, Columbia, ME, and died before 1844 (and probably before 1840, when not in family in the census).

Joel married secondly, 10 Aug 1843, Washington Co., ME, Electa P. Tourtelotte,[1] daughter of Elisha and Phebe (Part) Tourtelotte, and the sister of John Tourtelotte, who married Joel's daughter Laura Irene. She was born 1817, NB, and died between 1850 and 1860.

Joel Whitney was in the Stiles Tax roll 1858 at lot #3, 69 acres at the NW quarter of the SE quarter of Section 25, Town 28, Range 19. This is now almost the center of Oconto Falls, near the river.

ii. Laura Irene Whitney, b. 22 Dec 1823, Jonesboro, ME; m. 26 Aug 1849, Whitneyville, ME, John L. Tourtelotte, b. 31 Dec 1823, St. Stephen, Charlotte Co., NB, d. 18 Dec 1867, Onconto Co., WI. They had five children. This family resided in Whitneyville, ME, PA, and Onconto Co., WI.
iii. Amanda Whitney, b. 8 Sep 1826, Jonesboro, ME; apparently d. after 1840.
iv. Harriet Whitney, b. 3 Aug 1828, Jonesboro, ME; m. 22 Aug 1849, Washington Co., ME, Jotham Sewell Wilder.
v. Josephine Whitney, b. 29 Oct 1830, Jonesboro, ME; d. 14 Oct 1877, Anoka Co., MN; m. 21 Feb 1850, Franklin Bowen Dunn, b. 20 Nov 1820, and d. 13 Jul 1884.
vi. Edward L. Whitney, b. 15 Feb 1833, Jonesboro, ME; d. 18 Apr 1873, Livonia Twp., Sherburne Co., MN.
vii. Francis Marion Whitney, b. 24 Dec 1834, Jonesboro, ME; d. 21 Nov 1905, Portland, ME.
viii. Thomas B. Whitney, b. ca. 1837, ME; d. 15 Jun 1879, Stiles, WI; m. 19 Oct 1869, Stiles, WI, Louisa Jane Spice.
