John5 Whitney (Elnathan4, Eleazar3, Thomas2, John1), son of Elnathan4 and Sarah (Perry) Whitney, was born 3 Mar 1730/1, Watertown, MA.[1]

He "of Waltham" married, 4 Jul 1753, Watertown, MA, Mary Benjamin "of Watertown", daughter of Jonathan and Susanna (Norcross) Benjamin. She was born 24 May 1726, Watertown, MA.

He served in the Watertown company in the Revolutionary war.[2] If true, then the following pertains to him:

Whitney, John, Watertown. Private, Capt. Samuel Barnard's co. of militia, Col. Thomas Gardner's regt., which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775; service, 6 days; also, Capt. Abner Craft's co., Lieut. Col. William Bond's (late Col. Gardner's) 37th regt.; company return dated Cambridge, Oct. 7, 1775; also, order for bounty coat dated Camp at Cambridge, Nov. 13, 1775; also, list of men raised to serve in the Continental Army [year not given]; residence, Watertown; engaged for town of Watertown.[3]

Children of John5 and Mary (Benjamin) Whitney:

i. Samuel6 Whitney, bapt. 6 Jun 1756, Watertown, MA.[4] Was he perhaps the same man as Samuel Whitney of Seneca, NY?
