John6 Whitney (Isaiah5, Isaiah4, Isaiah3, Thomas2, John1), son of Isaiah5 and Persis (Randall) Whitney, was baptized 30 Mar 1760, Harvard, MA,[1] and died 1799, or 20 Apr 1800, Milledgeville, GA.
He married, 2 Jan 1785, Harvard, MA, Hannah Atherton,[2] daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Hutchins) Atherton. She was baptized 25 Nov 1764, Harvard, MA, and died 1795.
Private, Captain Sawyer's Company, Colonel Dike's Regiment, Revolutionary War, which assisted in the evacuation of Boston.

- "James Chaplin and Sally Whitney were married about 1808. Sally Whitney's father, John Whitney, was a soldier in the Revolution and served til its close. He again entered his country's service and was stationed on the Oconee River a few miles below Milledgeville, Georgia, from 1793 until 1800. He died April 20, 1800."

John Whitney, b. say 1792, prob. Harvard, MA; resided Baltimore, MD, in 1821. Not found in census records.

"Info wanted of Capt. John Whitney, formerly of Harvard, Mass.; his place of residence, if living, is of great moment to his two children. Believed he was born in the town of Shirley, Middlesex Co. or Harvard, Worcester Co., Mass. When an infant, was in the family of Mr. Abraham Whitney, in Harvard; in 1785 is supposed to have married Hannah Atherton, daughter of Joseph Atherton by when he had Sally, the oldest, and John, both now living. He was in the Continental Army until 1783; was a shop trader; in Harvard after his marriage, was a vol. for the suppression of Shay's Rebellion; after the death of his wife, was in the staff dept. of the US army, in GA, under Gen. Wilkerson; last letters received were dated Savannah GA, some years since. Communicate with his son, John Whitney in Baltimore City MD, c/o Mr Zachariah Keene, merchant, Dugan's wharf."
Granddaughter Nancy Chaplin Royce was a member of the D.A.R., Member No. 70542, as a descendant of John Whitney.[5]
