Jump to navigationJump to searchJohn6 Whitney (Joshua5, Joshua4, Joshua3, David2, Samuel1), was born circa 1780, Southampton Co., VA, and died circa 1844, Isle of Wight Co., VA.
He married, 18 Dec 1800, Southampton Co., VA, Ann Bracy.
Children of John6 and Ann (Bracy) Whitney (based on a census reconstruction):
i. (son)7 Whitney, b. 1800-1810. ii. (son) Whitney, b. 1800-1810. iii. (daughter) Whitney, b. 1804-1810. This is perhaps Martha 'Patsy' Whitney, b. ca. 1805, Southampton Co., VA, d. Jun 1838, Southampton Co., VA. She m. 23 Feb 1826, Southampton Co., VA, Richard Corbitt. She was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church. The church records show that she died 1838, about the same time as her husband Richard Corbitt. iv. (son) Whitney, b. 1810-1820.

- 1810, Shenandoah, Southampton Co., VA: John Whitney, 1 male 26-45, 2 males under 10, 1 female 26-45, 1 female under 10.
- 1820, no township given, Southampton Co., VA: Whitney, Jno, 1 male 26-44, 1 male 0-9, 1 female 26-44, and 1 female 10-15; 2 engaged in agriculture.
- 1830, Isle of Wight Co., VA: John Whitney, 1 male 50-60, 1 female 50-60.
- 1840: not found.
Notes
John died about 1844. I have no positive proof that Martha was the daughter of John and Ann, but this is the only place she could be placed in the Whitney family and the dates are right. In the 1810 census of Southampton, John and Ann had one daughter 0-9. I see two males in Southampton who don't fit anywhere else - Alexander and Selaney. They may also belong to this family. {jcf}
