Family:Whitney, John (c1797-a1880)
John Whitney (Edward), son of Edward and Martha (Moody) Whitney, was born about 1797, ME, and died sometime after 1880.
He married say 1819, probably in or near Falmouth, ME, Mary Grant (but see Notes below). She was born about 1801, ME, and died after 1880.

Edward Whitney, b. ca. 1824, probably Falmouth, ME; not found in 1860 or 1870 Censuses. iv. Charles W. Whitney, b. 13 Jul 1828, Falmouth, ME; m.(1) Harriet Peabody Moody; m.(2) Hannah L. (Gould) Smith. v. Nancy E. Whitney, b. ca. 1829, probably Falmouth, ME; d. 23 Apr 1912, Rumney, NH; "of Falmouth" m.(1) 2 or 12 Jul 1853, Falmouth, ME, "Mr." Rufus H. Grant "of Bath";[1] m.(2) 2 Mar 1889, Ossipee, NH, Obed Sanders. vi. Jerusha J. Whitney, b. ca. 1834, probably Falmouth, ME. She probably was identical to the Jane J. Whitney of Falmouth who m. 31 May 1855, York Co., ME, Seth Sinnott of Saco.[2] That Jane was born Jan 1834, ME, and died after 1900.
Notes
The death records for Alexander P. Whitney and Nancy E. Sanders both call their mother's maiden name "Grant". The death record for Robert E. Whitney calls her maiden name "Twitchell".[3]
