John Fairbanks7 Whitney (John6, Amos5, Amos4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of John6 and Betsey (Fairbanks) Whitney, was born 26 Mar 1823, Newburgh, ME, and died 2 Dec 1890, Newport, ME.

He married firstly, 12 Apr 1855, Lowell, MA, Lydia Jane Libby [Pierce says "Julia Ann Libby"], daughter of Oliver and Lydia (Littlefield) Libby.[1] She was born 12 Jul 1831, Albion ME, and died 31 Jul 1859, Albion, ME, aged 28 years of age of consumption. He married secondly, 24 Aug 1862, Exeter, NH, Victoria Florence A. Piper,[2] daughter of Samuel and Mary (Folsom) Piper, of Exeter, NH. She was born 12 Nov 1835, Stratham, NH, and died after 1880.

i. Clarence W.8 Whitney, b. 12 Mar 1856, Mason, NH; d. after 1870. He was probably the child, given name omitted, son of John F. Whitney, b. 12 Mar 1856, Mason, NH.[3]
ii. Frank B. Whitney, b. 28 Oct 1858, Marlow, NH (a twin); d. after 1870. He was probably the Frank B. Whitney, son of John F. and Lydia G. (-----) Whitney, b. 28 Oct 1858 (twin), Marlow, NH.[4]
iii. Jennie R. Whitney, b. 28 Oct 1858, Marlow, NH (a twin). She was the Kate R. Whitney, daughter of John F. and Lydia G. (-----) Whitney.[5] She d. 8 Apr 1885, Albion, ME. She is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Albion, ME.

iv. Mary Folsom8 Whitney , b. Dec 1863, Maxfield, ME; d. after 1906; m. Truman Miller Patten, 22 Mar 1893, Newport, ME. He was the son of William and Emeline (Curtis) Patten, b. May 1861, Newburgh, ME and d. 4 Jul 1926 near Alderwood, WA.
v. Anna V. Whitney, b. Oct 1865, ME; d. 5 Sep 1939, Rural Sedro-Wooley, WA, then unmarried.
vi. Dora E. Whitney, b. ca. 1867, ME; d. after 1880.
vii. Gracia F. Whitney or Gracia S. Whitney, b. ca. 1869, ME; d. after 1880.
viii. (prob.) John Malcolm Whitney, b. ca. 1871, ME; d. Dec 1879, Maxfield, ME, aged 8 years of diphtheria.[6]
ix. George Calvin Whitney, b. 17 Nov 1874, Maxfield, ME; m. Estella Janet White.
x. (prob.) Charlie Albert Whitney, b. ca. 1876, ME; d. Dec 1879, Maxfield, ME, aged 3 years of diphtheria.[7]
