Joseph Whitney (possibly Francis, possibly Francis, possibly Joshua3, David2, Samuel1), parentage unknown, birth date and location unknown, died about 21 Jul 1785, perhaps in or near Charleston, SC. He may have been a son of Francis Whitney, as delineated above, based on location, possible age, and surname.
- "Charleston, Sept. 29. ... [Introduction and other cases listed] ... Whereas I have received information that a certain Theophilus Hill, of Cambden County, in the said State, did on or about the twenty-first day of July last past, cruely and wilfully murder a certain Joseph Whitney, and has since made his escape into East-Florida. ... [other cases listed] ... And I do hereby charge and require all officers, and other good citizens of this State, to be vigilent, aiding, and assisting in bringing the said offenders, and their accomplices to justice. Given under my hand... S. Elbert. By his Honor's Command, J. Milton, Secretary."
