Joseph Glazier7 Whitney (Abner6, Samuel5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Abner6 and Levina (Glazier)(Ward) Whitney, was born 22 Jun 1783, Westminster, MA,[1] and died 31 Jul 1868, Ashburnham or Westminster, MA, aged 85 years 1 month 9 days, of typhoid, farmer.[2]

Marriage intentions were published 6 Jun 1805, Westminster, MA, for him and Levinah Dunn.[3] He married, 28 Nov 1805, Gardner, MA, Levina Dunn, "both of Westminster",[4] daughter of John and Mary (Puffer) Dunn. She was born about 10 Jan 1789, Marlborough, MA, was baptized 12 Apr 1789, Marlborough, MA, and died 24 Jun 1875, Ashburnham or Westminster, MA, aged 86 years 5 months 14 days, of age.[5]

He was a farmer; resided in Ashburnham, MA. He made his will in 1864, and it was probated 31 Jul 1868. Perley Howe was executor. He made bequests to his wife Levina and children John, Abner, Levina G. Cushing, Mary Puffer Howe, Lucy Whitney Chase, Stephen Puffer, Belinda Cushing. He resided Westminster and Ashburnham, MA.

iii. Levina G. Whitney, b. 29 Jul 1809; d. 1 Nov 1899, Brookline, MA, aged 90 years 3 months 2 days, of phthisis;[6] m. (int. 2 Apr 1834, Westminster, MA[7]) 13 Apr 1834, Rev. Stephen Cushing; resided Dorchester, MA. He was b. 13 Mar 1813, Boston, MA. In the spring of 1830 he moved with his family to Ashburnham and resided there until active labor in the ministry influenced a residence in other places. He was a student at the Wesleyan academy at Wilbraham nearly three years, and subsequently he pursued a partial course of study at the Wesleyan university at Middletown, CT. He was received in the New England conference of the Methodist Episcopal church in June 1833, and for the ensuing twenty-four years he completed with ability and faithfulness various pastoral changes. Answering the demands of impaired health he rested a year, and from 1838 to 1880 he supplied the pulpit in many churches. He made several valuable contributions to the general and local history of Methodism in Worcester County. He preached the semicentennial discourse in Ashburnham, and in 1883 at the annual session of the conference in Boston he delivered an address reviewing the progress of the church during the half century since his admission to the ministry. For many years he efficiently served the conference as secretary and trustee, and since 1881 he has been treasurer. In these varied and responsible employments he enjoyed the merited approbation of his associates. Children:

iv. Mary Puffer Whitney, b. 19 Jul 1812; d. 5 Feb 1888, Ashburnham, MA, aged 75 years, of old age;[8] m. 28 Nov 1833, Westminster, MA, Perley Howe, Jr.[9] He was b. 17 Sep 1811, Gardner, MA. He was a farmer; resided in Ashburnham, MA, since 1834. Has been assessor and selectman several years and acceptably filled other positions of trust. He d. 2 Jun 1882. Children:
a. Orange Eli Howe, b. 23 Dec 1835; m.(1) Maria A. Platts; m.(2) Olive C. Shorey; resided So. Ashburnham, MA.
b. Alvah S. Howe, b. 13 Aug 1837; d. 4 Sep 1877, Woonsocket, RI; m. L. Annie Glazier.
c. George P. Howe, b. 12 Mar 1847; m.(1) Eliza J. Kelton; m.(2) Mrs. Mary (Hamilton) Piersen; resided Chelsea, MA.
v. Belinda Whitney, b. 20 May 1815; d. 5 Jan 1841; m. (int. 10 May 1838, Westminster, MA[10]) 30 May 1838, Benjamin Cushing, b. 19 Feb 1817; he m.(2) 18 May 1841, Lois S. Holbrook. He was a farmer and resided on the old homestead in Ashburnham. He had ten children by his second wife. Children:
a. Sarah Page Cushing, b. 24 Aug 1840.
vi. Lucy Whitney, b. 21 Jul 1826, Westminster, MA; d. 7 May 1903, Quincy, MA (also recorded Chelsea, MA), aged 76 years 9 months 17 days, of angina pectoris;[11] m. 19 Feb 1847, Edward Chase; resided Chelsea, MA. He was b. 6 Mar 1815; d. 6 May 1882. Was a civil engineer and later in the life insurance business. She was buried in the Friends Burying Ground, Salem, MA. Children:
a. Mary Howard Chase, b. 27 Apr 1849; m. 17 Sep 1872, Hendricks A. Hallett; address, 123 Chestnut street, Chelsea, MA,
b. Edward Abbot Chase, b. 13 Jul 1838; "Rev." m. 17 Dec 1884, Meriden, CT, Caroline B. Hatch; address, 37 Farnam street, South Lawrence, MA.
