Family:Whitney, Joshua (1750-1821)

Capt. Joshua5 Whitney (Joshua4, David3, Joshua2, John1), son of Joshua4 and Amy (Blodgett) Whitney, was born 25 Mar 1750, Canaan, Connecticut, and died 23 Mar 1821, Bridport, Vermont.

He married 1 Dec 1785, Sally Cochran, daughter of Colonel Robert and Mary (Miller) Cochran. She was born 23 Nov 1763, Colrain, Massachusetts, and died 29 Jan 1810.

During the Revolutionary war he was in a Connecticut regiment, and ensign of one of the companies and later first lieutenant in Captain McKinstry's County 9th New York Regiment of the Claverack Battalion. In 1779 he was captain, and at its close moved to New York state. He finally settled in Addison County, VT, and died there. He was granted a pension by the Government 30 Mar 1818. Joshua Whitney, of Argyle, Washington County, NY, sold land in New Marlborough, MA, 31 Dec 1808, which fell to me as heir to the estate of Joshua Whitney, Esq., late of Plainfield, CT, decd., and was set off by the distribution of said estate to me. He died in 1821; resided Connecticut, New York state, and Addison County, VT.

i. Mary6 Whitney, b. 22 Oct 1786, Crown Point, NY; d. 1 Sep 1835; m. Norman Colburn. She was also listed as "Polly" Whitney.

iii. Amy Whitney, b. 18 Aug 1791.
iv. Joshua Blodget Whitney, b. 7 Sep 1793, Crown Point, NY, d. 25 Jul 1794.
v. William Miller Whitney, b. 24 May 1795, Addison County, VT; married Martha Ann Perlee.
vi. Joshua Whitney, b. 26 Feb 1797, Addison, VT, m. Susannah Hinds.
vii. Huldah Whitney, b. 4 Oct 1800.
viii. Nancy Whitney, b. 4 Feb 1804; d. 4 Apr 1872; m. 1 Sep 1831, Addison and Bridport, VT, Elisha Ferguson.[1]
ix. George Whitney, b. 19 Jun 1806.
