Joshua6 Whitney (Joshua5, Joshua4, Joshua3, David2, Samuel1), son of Joshua5 and Ann (-----) Whitney, was born circa 1778 (or ca. 1780), Southampton Co., VA, and died 1837, Southampton Co., VA.
He married 16 Nov 1811, Isle of Wight County (or Southampton Co.), Virginia, Sweeting Joyner. She was born ca. 1793, Virginia, and died after 1850, Virginia. Sweeten Joyner was the daughter of John Joyner and Sarah and grandaughter of John Joyner and Sweeting Reynolds.
A Joshua Whitney was in the Pasquotank census in 1840 . In 1850 Camden Co., N.C. I found Joshua Whitney, born Va, age 28 with wife Mary F. age 19, born in Camden. Chancery order book Southampton 1832-1858 - Merit Whitney, Giles Whitney, Sarah Whitney, Virginia Whitney, Martha Ann Whitney and Mary Whitney, widow of Joshua Whitney, dec. against John M. Whitney. There were six bonds, one each for Merit, Giles, Sarah, Virginia, Martha A. and John M. infant heir of Joshua Whitney, dec. To report to court if he has no guardian {p. 316}. P. 348 to determind value of dower of Mary F. Whitney in bond given to John M. Whitney of $202.37. Decree had been Nov., term 1852. Mary F. to get $56.66. Balance of land had been bought by Giles S. Whitney. v. Virginia R. Whitney vi. Martha Ann Whitney

Whitney, b. ca. 1816, VA d. 1857, VA, died in typhoid epidemic.[1] iii. Sarah I. Whitney, b. ca. 1818, VA. Her name could have been Sarah J. Possibly married Elijah Williams. iv. Joshua Whitney, b. ca. 1822, Southampton Co., VA, m. 7 Dec 1848, Mary F. Wilkins. v. Virginia R. Whitney, b. ca. 1827, VA. vi. Martha Ann Whitney, b. ca. 1829. She m. 20 Apr 1861, James Madison Corbitt, son of Samuel and Margaret (Betts) Corbitt. He was b. 7 Feb 1829, d. 5 Aug 1901. - Ch: Charles Linwood Corbitt, b. 21 Oct 1862; Maggie Corbitt, b. 21 Jan 1866; Martha (Mattie) Sarah Corbitt, b. 25 Apr 1867; d. 5 Apr 1957; James Howard Corbitt, b. 29 Apr 1869; Nathaniel S. Corbitt, b. 29 Apr 1869.[2]
