Levi6 Whitney (Samuel5, Samuel4, Richard3, John2, Henry1), son of Samuel5 and Rebecca (Banks) Whitney, was born probably 16 Nov. 1778, Greenfield, CT, and died 15 Dec 1852, Philipstown, NY, aged 74 years 1 month.

He married, about 1809, Greenfield, CT, Harriet Sherwood, daughter of Squire and Eleanor (Bradley) Sherwood, of Greenfield. She was born 9 Oct 1791, Greenfield, CT, and died 28 May 1873, Philipstown, NYin her 82d year.

Phoenix says the following:

Levi Whitney, b. at Greenfield, Conn., 16 Nov. 1778; bap. there, 21 Feb. 1779; a carpenter; married at Greenfield, about 1809, Harriet Sherwood, dau. of Squire and Eleanor (Bradley) Sherwood, of Greenfield, where she was born 9 Oct. 1791. In the Spring of 1811, they settled in Philipstown, N. Y., near the north-west part of the town, within half a mile of the present county line, in the valley of a small creek that flows northward into the Fishkill. After one or two years, he bought thirty acres of land, near the top of the mountain, about a mile and a half farther east. Here he built a small house, with its door within six feet of a fine spring of water; and in this home, after a life of comfort and contentment, they died (he, 15 Dec. 1852, aged 74 years and one month; she, 28 May 1873, in her 82d year), and were buried in Highlands Cemetery, two miles southwest of their house. They were members of the middle Presbyterian Church in Fishkill, two miles east of the village.

i. Marana Whitney, b. 26 Nov 1810, Greenfield, CT; d. s. p. 14 Nov 1849, Highlands, Philipstown, NY; m. 15 Apr 1847, Philipstown, NY, John Moshier; a wagon-maker, who was born at Philipstown, 24 Aug 1812, son of James and Mary (Ferguson) Moshier she was buried in the Highlands Cemetery, near her father and mother. He lived at Glenham, NY, in 1873. She was his second wife, and since her death he has married a third time.
ii. Eleanor Sherwood Whitney, b. 3 Jan 1812, Highlands, Philipstown, NY; m. 22 Jan 1857, Highlands, Philipstown, NY, Hamilton Jaycox; a tailor, born in Patterson, NY, 18 Mar 1805, son of Gershom and Mary (Fisher) Jaycox. They lived on her father's homestead, in "Upper Highlands," without children, in 1874.
iii. Samuel Whitney, b. 5 Jan 1815, Upper Highlands, Philipstown, NY; m.(1) Jane Scholefield; m.(2) Clarissa (Crandall) Carpenter; m.(3) Phebe (Nichols) Hastings.
