Family:Whitney, Levi (1784-1849)
Levi7 Whitney (Levi6, Jonas5, Jonas4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), was born 28 Sep 1784, son of Levi6 and Hepsibeth (Fay) Whitney, was born 28 Sep 1784, Rindge, NH,[1] and died 20 Dec 1849, Bridgewater, VT.
He married, first, Polly Fish,[2] daughter of Nathan and Abigail (-----) Fish. She was born Jan 1788, and died 7 Aug 1831, aged 42 years.
"Know all men by these presents that we Levi Whitney, Lydia Fish, Nancy Fish, and Sally Fish all of Woodstock in the County of Windsor and State of Vermont, heirs to the estate of Dower of Abigail Fish of Woodstock County of Windsor and State aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of twenty-five dollars paid to each of us by Nathan Fish son and heir to the said Abigail Fish, the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge have renounced, released, and forever quitclaimed by these presents for ourselves and our heirs do . . . unto the said Nathan Fish all rights and title to the estate dower of the said Abigail Fish . . . ., 23 June 1816."[3]
He married, second, Betsey (Gould) Spencer, daughter of Ebenezer and Anna (Lane) Gould. She was born 16 Dec 1790, NH, and died 16 Jan 1868, Ionia, MI. She had previously been married to Aaron Spencer by whom she had three children: William (b. ca. 1824); Nathan Gould (b. 8 Jan 1830); and Harriet E. (b. ca. 1832).
The estate file for Levi Whitney lists the following heirs: "Hepsibah Whitney of Hartland; Pluma Curtis, wife of Joel Curtis of Woodstock; Amos Whitney of Woodstock; Mary Caswell, wife of Ralph Caswell, of Springfield, Massachusetts; Edwin Whitney and Frances Whitney, both of Woodstock; and Adelaide Whitney of Bridgewater (daughter of his deceased son, Nathan Whitney)."

Augusta Curtis, b. -----. e. Edgar Curtis, b. -----.
iv. Sylvester Whitney, b. ca. 1817, VT; m. Betsey Rood. v. Mary F. Whitney, b. ca. 1823, VT; m. 7 Oct 1847, Lowell, MA, Ralph B. Caswell of Andover, blacksmith, b. ca. 1823, son of Moody Caswell,[5] res. Springfield, MA. He was b. ca. 1822, Canada. Children: a. Angelia A. Caswell, b. ca. 1849, MA.
vi. Abigail P. Whitney, b. ca. Oct 1824; d. 9 Mar 1860, Pittsfield, age 35-5-0 of consumption, b. Woodstock, dau. of Levi & Polly; apparently unmarried. vii. Amos Whitney, b. ca. 1827; unmarried in 1880; of Woodstock. viii. Edwin Whitney, b. ca. 1830, probably Woodstock, VT; m. (1) Lovina -----; m.(2) Marcia A. (Hadley) Taylor.
Children of Levi and Betsey (Gould)(Spencer) Whitney:
ix. Frances B. Whitney, b. 26 Oct 1836. Her middle initial may also have been "E." She m. 25 Oct 1860, Bedford Township, Calhoun Co., MI, Matthew Miller.
Notes
Note that Levi Whitney, son of Levi6 and Hepsibeth (Fay) Whitney had a brother named Amos, after whom this Levi7 named a son Amos.
One of the heirs of Levi7 Whitney was Hepsibah Whitney, who may have been named after Levi6's mother.
Sylvester Whitney, a proven son, was not listed among the heirs. Daughter Abigail was also not listed among the heirs.
