Luther8 Whitney (Joseph7, Palmer6, Joseph5, Timothy4, John3, John2, John1), son of Joseph7 and Sophronia (Taylor) Whitney, was born 7 Dec 1841, near Campton (now Wasco), Kane County, IL,[1] and died 4 Dec 1914, Hopkins, Nodaway Co., MO.[2]
He married, 18 Nov 1865, Thomson, Carroll Co., IL, Ellen Augusta Willey,[3] daughter of Alonzo and Tryphena (Barber) Willey. She was born 15 Mar 1843, near Java Village, Wyoming Co., NY,[4] and died 3 Sep 1926, Hopkins, Nodaway Co., MO.[5]
Luther and Ellen were second cousins. They were related through their common ancestors, Joseph and Lydia (Miller) Barber.
Luther was a farmer and served during the war in the 92nd Illinois Regiment, was wounded and had a pension; resided York Twp, Carroll Co., IL, and Hopkins, Nodaway Co., MO.
